Chinese New Year 2027: The Fire Goat Year and Numerology

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6, 2027, and begins the Year of the Goat, paired with the Fire element. That lunar year runs until January 25, 2028; the Year of the Monkey begins on January 26, 2028. In Western numerology, the calendar year 2027 is a Universal Year 2, which belongs to a separate tradition and starts on January 1.

Recent Goat years, by lunar year rather than calendar year, are 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 and 2027.

03What Is the Year of the Fire Goat?

The Chinese zodiac assigns one of twelve animals to each lunar year, in a fixed order that runs Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Each year also carries one of five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water. The elements come from the ten heavenly stems, and the animals from the twelve earthly branches. Combined, stems and branches form a sixty-year cycle, so a specific pairing like the Fire Goat returns only once every sixty years.

2027 is a Ding Wei year. Ding is the yin form of Fire and Wei is the branch of the Goat. It follows the Fire Horse year of 2026, so Fire carries across both lunar years before Earth takes over with the Monkey in 2028. The previous Fire Goat year was 1967; the next will be 2087.

Popular zodiac writing tends to associate the Goat with gentleness, creativity and care for others. Those are traditional symbolic associations, not descriptions of everyone born in a Goat year. One practical note on birthdays. If you were born in January or early February, check the lunar new year date for your birth year before assuming your animal. Some practices, such as Four Pillars of Destiny (BaZi), change the year at Lichun, the start of spring around February 4, rather than at the new moon.

04What Is Universal Year 2 in Numerology?

In Western numerology, each calendar year reduces to a single digit called the Universal Year. For 2027: 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11, and 1 + 1 = 2. 05How the Two Years Overlap, and How They Do Not

From February 6 to December 31, both 2027 labels apply. From January 1 to January 25, 2028, numerology has moved to a Universal Year 3 while the Goat year continues.

What does not overlap is meaning. These systems developed separately, use different calendars and answer different questions. There is no traditional reading of a "Fire Goat 2 year", and any combined meaning would be invented.
