There is no meaningful "most common" life path number. Six of them, 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9, each land on about 11.1% of all possible birth dates, separated by two or three dates across an entire century, which is calendar noise rather than significance. The real answer lives at the other end of the table: life path 11 falls on 6.43% of birth dates, 22 on 3.11%, and 33 on just 0.78%, roughly one date in 128.

01The frequency of every life path number
Method: every calendar date from 1 January 1925 to 31 December 2024 was counted once. That is 36,525 dates, leap days included. For each one, the day, month and year were reduced to single digits (keeping 11 and 22 where a component produced one), the three results were added, and the total was reduced again, leaving 11, 22 and 33 standing. The counts below sum to exactly 36,525, so the table can be checked.

Two honest caveats. This is the frequency of birth dates, not of people. Real births are not spread evenly across the calendar: some months run heavier than others, scheduled deliveries thin out weekends, and 29 February exists a quarter as often as its neighbours. 02Why six numbers tie and three fall short
Look at 2, 4 and 6. They are the only single digits that come in under 11.1%, and the shortfall is not random. Add each one back to its master number:
- 2 (1,710) plus 11 (2,349) = 4,059
- 4 (2,924) plus 22 (1,136) = 4,060
- 6 (3,774) plus 33 (285) = 4,059
Every one of the nine roots lands between 4,056 and 4,060 dates, which is 11.10% to 11.12%. The distribution underneath is essentially flat. Master numbers are not extra outcomes bolted onto the system; they are a slice of 2, 4 and 6 that convention chooses not to reduce. Life path 2 looks scarce at 4.68% only because 57.9% of the dates in its family get relabelled as 11 before anyone counts them. In the 4 family, 28.0% become 22. In the 6 family, only 7.0% become 33.
That single fact reframes the rarity question. Scarcity here is a bookkeeping effect of where the convention stops reducing, not evidence that fewer people carry the theme. If you find that clarifying rather than deflating, the mechanics behind it are set out in birth date numerology.
03How rare is life path 11
Life path 11 appears on 6.43% of birth dates, about one in 15.5. That makes it the most common of the three master numbers by a wide margin, and far less exotic than its reputation suggests. In a room of a hundred people you would expect six.
It is comparatively well fed because so many components can produce an 11 on their own. November is month 11. The 11th and the 29th both reduce to 11 as days. Years whose digits reduce to 11 feed it too, and a total of 29 or 38 also collapses into 11 rather than past it. More entry points means more dates. One in 15.5 is worth holding onto, because a good deal of writing about 11 leans on an implied scarcity the arithmetic does not support. On these figures, 11 is more common than life path 2 itself, and a little over half as common as any of the six tied single digits. Noticeable, but not unusual enough to build an identity on.
04Is life path 22 rare
Yes, roughly twice as rare as 11: 3.11% of birth dates, about one in 32.2. It is the second least common outcome in the table.
The reason is structural. To finish on 22 the reduced components have to total exactly 22, and there is no second route in, because no larger total can reduce back into 22: adding the digits of any two-digit number gives at most 18. Compare that with 11, which can be reached by a total of 11 directly or by 29 and 38 folding into it. Fewer routes, fewer dates. The interpretive side is in life path 22 meaning.
There is a second squeeze. Three reduced components have to average more than seven to reach 22 at all, so without an 11 among them the only combinations available are 4 + 9 + 9, 5 + 8 + 9, 6 + 7 + 9, 6 + 8 + 8 and 7 + 7 + 8 in some order. A component of 22, such as being born on the 22nd, is no help at all, because 22 plus anything else overshoots. Rarity in this case is a narrow arithmetic corridor, nothing more.
05The rarest life path number is 33, and it is disappearing
Life path 33 is the rarest at 0.78% of birth dates, about one in 128. But that average hides something stranger: 33 is not spread thinly across the calendar, it is clustered inside a handful of years.
Of the 285 qualifying dates in the century measured, 189 sit in just seven years: 1939, 1948, 1957, 1966, 1975, 1984 and 1993. Each of those years has digits summing to 22, which lifts the year component high enough for a day and month to complete 33. Each one contributes 27 qualifying dates. Every other year in the span produces one or two, or none at all.
Now the part almost nobody states. No year in the 2000s can have digits summing to 22, because the highest available is 2 + 0 + 9 + 9 = 20. The main engine of 33 switched off in 1999. Across births from 2000 to 2024, life path 33 falls to 0.31% of dates, about one in 326, and it stays at roughly that level for the rest of the century. 06Why published rarity figures disagree
Two reduction conventions are in circulation and they produce different tables, which is the source of most of the contradictions you will find online.
The table above keeps a master number when one shows up in the day, month or year before the three are added. The stricter variant reduces every component all the way to a single digit first. Under that variant the largest possible total is 9 + 9 + 9 = 27, so 33 cannot occur at all, in any year, ever. Across the same 36,525 dates it also moves 11 up to 7.37% and 22 down to 1.94%.
Neither convention is a discovery about people. Both are agreements about where to stop, and it is worth knowing which one a source used before setting its percentages against anyone else's. The same caution applies when two numbers get read against each other, as in life path number compatibility.
07What a rare number does not mean
A frequency is a fact about a calendar. It is not a ranking, and it carries no claim that an uncommon number produces an uncommon life. The table above shows exactly why: strip the master-number convention away and all nine roots are equal to within four dates in a hundred years. There is nothing underneath the scarcity except a decision not to reduce.
What a life path number is actually good for is naming a recurring theme, a default you return to under pressure, in language stable enough to think with. Whether that theme is shared with one person in nine or one in 326 changes nothing about how it operates in you, and treating rarity as status is the fastest way to stop learning anything from the number at all.
